Mini mock test: 12-question mixed aptitude sprint

By Marin Devereux·10 min read·

This mini mock covers all three core skills in 12 questions. Set a timer for 10 minutes and try to answer all of them. Scroll down for worked solutions — but only after you have attempted every question.

Rules
10 minutes. No calculator for the first 4 (numerical). Write your answers down before checking solutions. Honour system — the only person you are cheating is yourself.

Numerical (4 questions)

N1
A store’s monthly revenue was $24,000. After a 15% increase, what is the new monthly revenue?

24,000 × 1.15 = $27,600.

N2
Three departments spent $12K, $18K, and $30K. What percentage of total spend was the largest department?

Total = 60K. Largest = 30K. Share = 30/60 = 50%.

N3
A product’s cost rose from $8.40 to $10.08. What is the percentage increase?

(10.08 − 8.40) / 8.40 = 1.68 / 8.40 = 20%.

N4
If 3 workers can produce 180 units in 6 hours, how many units can 5 workers produce in 4 hours (same rate)?

Rate per worker per hour = 180 / (3 × 6) = 10 units. 5 workers × 4 hours × 10 = 200 units.

Verbal (4 questions)

V1
Passage: “The new policy applies to all employees hired after January 2025.” Statement: “Employees hired in December 2024 are covered by the new policy.”

False. “After January 2025” excludes December 2024.

V2
Passage: “Most participants reported improved focus after the training programme.” Statement: “All participants improved their focus.”

Cannot Say. “Most” does not mean “all”. The passage does not give enough information to confirm or deny that all improved.

V3
Passage: “The company announced it would close its Berlin office, citing declining demand in the European market.” Statement: “The Berlin office was the least profitable European office.”

Cannot Say. The passage says demand declined, but says nothing about relative profitability of different offices.

V4
Passage: “Revenue in Q3 exceeded Q2 by $4.2M, reaching $18.6M.” Statement: “Q2 revenue was $14.4M.”

True. 18.6 − 4.2 = 14.4.

Logical (4 questions)

L1
A sequence goes: 2, 6, 18, 54, ___. What comes next?

Each number is multiplied by 3. 54 × 3 = 162.

L2
All managers attend the conference. Sarah is a manager. Therefore:

Sarah attends the conference. Classic deductive syllogism — if all X are Y, and Z is X, then Z is Y.

L3
In a shape sequence, a square rotates 90° clockwise each step. After 5 steps, what is its orientation relative to the start?

5 × 90° = 450° = 360° + 90°. Net rotation = 90° clockwise from start (same as 1 step).

L4
If it rains, the match is cancelled. The match was not cancelled. What can you conclude?

It did not rain. This is the contrapositive: if not-Q, then not-P.
