mapTQ test: what Aon's cut-e portal sends you and how to practise

By Pratham Ranjan·6 min read·

mapTQ is the online portal that delivers Aon's assessments, which were formerly cut-e's. It isn't a single test. Through mapTQ an employer can send short reasoning tests (Aon's "scales" numerical, verbal and logical tests), quick game-style challenges such as switchChallenge or gridChallenge, and personality questionnaires. The label next to each test in your invitation tells you what you're actually facing. Below is how to read it and where to practise each one. For the full Aon family, see the Aon assessments hub.

TL;DRthe 30-second version
  • mapTQ = Aon's test portal, not a test. cut-e, Aon and mapTQ usually mean the same family.
  • Aon acquired cut-e in 2017; cut-e tests now run as Aon Assessment Solutions.
  • Tests are short and speed-first: minutes each, and most people don't finish.
  • The second label (scales numerical, switchChallenge…) tells you the task.
  • Works on mobile, but a computer is recommended.
Definition
mapTQ is Aon's online assessment portal, used by employers to deliver cut-e and Aon ability tests, game-based challenges and questionnaires to candidates.
  • One invitation can contain several short tests, each with its own timer.
  • Reasoning tests are fast: the maths and reading are simple, the pace isn't.
  • Game challenges each test one mechanic. Practising the exact one matters most.
  • Many Aon tests adapt to your answers, so harder questions often mean you're doing well.

The scales reasoning tests

These are the classic aptitude tests on mapTQ. They're much faster than SHL equivalents:

  • scales numerical: data is spread across tabs or tables; you check statements against it. The maths is percentages and ratios; the challenge is finding the right figure fast.
  • scales verbal: short passages and statements to judge as true, false or cannot say, at speed.
  • scales ix / cls: abstract logical reasoning: spot the rule in a set of shapes or symbols.
You're not meant to finish
Prep sites report the scales tests pack dozens of short tasks into around 12 minutes. Don't rush into careless errors trying to finish. Accuracy at a steady pace scores better.

The game challenges

Aon's challenges (switch, grid, digit, gap, motion and others) each test one mechanic in a few minutes. They're where practice helps most, because the mechanic is unfamiliar the first time and familiar the tenth. forge has free trainers for each; start with the one named in your invite. See the Aon game practice hub.

Practise every mapTQ test on forge

forge has practice for Aon's scales numerical, verbal and logical tests and each game challenge, with timers that match the real pace.

Open Aon practice

Before you start

  • Use a computer if you can, with a mouse for the game challenges.
  • Read each test's instructions and example items; they change between tests.
  • Do one practice round of the exact test named in your invite.
  • Find a quiet slot. Tests are short, so do them in one sitting while you're sharp.

Frequently asked questions

What is a mapTQ test?

mapTQ is the online portal that delivers Aon's assessments, formerly cut-e. 'mapTQ test' isn't one specific test: through mapTQ an employer can send Aon's numerical, verbal or logical reasoning tests (the 'scales' series), short game-style challenges such as switchChallenge or gridChallenge, and personality questionnaires.

Are mapTQ, cut-e and Aon the same thing?

Effectively, yes. Aon acquired cut-e in 2017, and cut-e's tests now run as Aon Assessment Solutions on the mapTQ portal. An invitation may say cut-e, Aon or mapTQ and mean the same family of tests.

How long are mapTQ tests?

Each test is short. The scales reasoning tests and the game challenges typically last a few minutes to about 15 minutes each, but an employer may send several. The total depends on how many tests are in your invitation.

Can I do mapTQ tests on my phone?

The portal works on phones and tablets, but a computer is recommended, especially for numerical tests with tabs of data and fast game challenges.

How do I find out which mapTQ test I'm taking?

Look for the second label in your invitation or on the portal: 'scales numerical', 'scales verbal', 'scales ix' or 'cls', 'switchChallenge', 'gridChallenge', 'digitChallenge' and so on. That label tells you the actual task. forge's 'which Aon test am I taking' guide maps each one.

Is the mapTQ numerical test hard?

The maths is simple (percentages, ratios, comparisons). The difficulty is speed: data is spread across tabs and there are many quick true / false / cannot say style tasks in a short time. Most people don't finish, so accuracy at a steady pace matters more than completing every item.
