SHL TalentCentral: what it is, which tests it runs and how to prepare
SHL TalentCentral is the online platform SHL uses to deliver its assessments. It isn't a test in itself. When an employer sends you an "SHL TalentCentral assessment", the actual test could be numerical, verbal, inductive or deductive reasoning, the Verify G+ general ability test, the OPQ personality questionnaire, a situational judgement test, or a mix. The most useful thing you can do is work out which one you have. Our SHL test decoder helps with that.
- TalentCentral is SHL's platform, not a specific test.
- You create an account the first time you open an invitation.
- Expired link? You can't start the test. Contact the recruiter, who can reschedule.
- The invite label (Verify, Interactive, G+, OPQ) tells you the exact format.
- Prepare for the test, not the platform: format, timer, question types.
- Your invitation link opens TalentCentral; you sign up on first use.
- One invitation can contain several tests, each with its own timer.
- Each test has a deadline; after it expires, only the employer can reopen it.
- What you're scored on depends entirely on which SHL test the employer chose.
How a TalentCentral assessment works
- Invitation. The employer sends an email with a unique link and a deadline.
- Account. SHL's support pages say you create an account on your first visit. Keep the login, because later invitations may use it.
- Test list. You see the assessments the employer has assigned. Some must be done in order.
- Instructions and examples. Most tests show instructions and example questions before the timer starts. Read them; they tell you the format.
- Timed test. Once you start, the timer runs. Find a quiet hour and a stable connection before you click start.
- Submission. Results go to the employer. SHL doesn't make the hiring decision.

Open SHL practiceBefore you click start: a checklist
- Decode the test label in your invite (see the table above).
- Do at least one timed practice in that exact format.
- Use a laptop or desktop with a stable connection; close other tabs.
- Have rough paper ready. Numerical tests usually allow a calculator; the calculation test doesn't.
- Block out uninterrupted time. Once a timer starts, it doesn't pause.
- If you need adjustments (extra time, accessibility), ask the employer before you begin.
Technical problems
SHL runs a candidate support portal for access and technical issues. If something fails mid-test, note the time and what happened, contact SHL support, and tell the recruiter before the deadline. Employers can reschedule an assessment, but only if they know about the problem.

Frequently asked questions
What is SHL TalentCentral?
TalentCentral is SHL's online platform for delivering assessments. Employers use it to send you tests, and you use it to take them. If you've been sent an SHL test, the link in your invitation usually opens TalentCentral.
Is a TalentCentral assessment a specific test?
No. TalentCentral is the platform, not the test. Through it, an employer can send any SHL assessment: numerical, verbal, inductive or deductive reasoning (standard or Interactive), the Verify G+ general ability test, the OPQ personality questionnaire, a situational judgement test, or a mix.
Do I need an account for TalentCentral?
Yes. SHL's support pages say that the first time you visit TalentCentral to complete an assessment, you need to create an account. Use an email address you'll keep, because later invitations may go to the same account.
What if my TalentCentral link has expired?
SHL's support pages say you can't attempt a test once its validity has expired, and you should contact the recruiter. Employers can reschedule expired assessments, so email them quickly and politely.
How do I know which SHL test I'm taking on TalentCentral?
Read the invitation email and the instructions screen. Labels like 'Verify Numerical Ability', 'Verify Interactive', 'Verify G+' or 'OPQ' tell you the exact format. forge's 'which SHL test am I taking' guide decodes each label.
Can I practise on TalentCentral itself?
Not with real questions, but SHL offers practice tests on its own website, and the platform shows example questions before most tests. Use those to learn the interface, then practise the specific test format against a timer.
