Most large employers do not build their own aptitude tests — they license them from a handful of providers like SHL, AON (cut-e), Pymetrics and HireVue, then set their own pass mark. Knowing which provider sits behind your target company’s assessment is the single most useful thing you can learn before you prepare, because it tells you exactly what format, timing and traps to practise. forge’s question database spans the providers these employers use — SHL, AON, Cappfinity, Talent Q and more — so every guide routes you to representative practice for the real format. If you are new to all this, start with our psychometric tests overview.

TL;DRthe 30-second version
  • Employers license tests from providers — practise the provider format, not a generic mock.
  • Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and PwC lean on SHL numerical & verbal reasoning.
  • JP Morgan adds Pymetrics game-based assessments before its SHL tests.
  • Most also run a HireVue video interview and a final assessment centre / superday.
  • Each company guide names the provider per stage and links to free forge practice.
Definition
An employer assessment is the set of provider-built online tests — usually numerical, verbal and behavioural — that a company uses to screen candidates after the application stage and before interviews.

How to use this hub

Start with the information you actually have. The employer name is useful, but the invite email is usually more precise because it names the provider, platform, or test family.

If your invite saysUse this firstThen practise
A provider name, such as SHL, AON or HireVueThe provider guideThe exact numerical, verbal, game or video format
Only the employer nameThe company overview belowThe most likely provider route for that role
A company plus test labelThe focused company-test guideA timed set in that specific format
Vague online assessment wordingThe company page and provider cluesOne numerical/verbal set while you confirm the platform

Common employer-guide mistakes

  • Practising the company, not the format. Goldman, Siemens or Zurich are employer labels; SHL, AON, Pymetrics and HireVue are the test mechanics.
  • Using an old forum post as the source of truth. Employers change providers by region, year and role.
  • Ignoring role differences. Technology, finance, actuarial and consulting routes at the same employer can use different assessments.
Provider caveat
These pages are built from public candidate reports, prep-industry sources and forge research. They are useful routing guides, not official employer instructions. Always let your actual invitation email override the page.

Company guides

Each guide breaks down the full recruitment process, names the test provider behind every stage, and links to the matching free practice. We are starting with the investment banks and Big Four firms that generate the highest search demand.

How we attribute providers
Employers rarely publish which provider they use, and relationships change. Our attribution cross-references candidate reports and prep-industry sources, is year-stamped to 2026, and is flagged where a role may differ. Always confirm against your invitation email — it usually names the platform.

Source notes

forge uses official provider pages where possible, including SHL’s candidate practice tests, Aon’s online assessment preparation page, HireVue’s candidate interview tips, and Harver’s gamified assessment overview. Employer-provider mappings are still partly inferred, so every company page includes a caveat.

Focused company-test guides

These pages are narrower than the overview guides. Use them when you already know the likely test family and want the exact company-plus-test preparation route.

Frequently asked questions

Which test provider does my target employer use?+

It varies by company and role. Investment banks like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and PwC mostly use SHL-administered numerical and verbal reasoning tests; JP Morgan adds Pymetrics game-based assessments. Each company guide below names the provider behind every stage.

Are employer aptitude tests the same as the provider's standard test?+

Largely, yes. Employers license tests from providers like SHL, AON or Pymetrics and apply their own cut-score and question selection. So practising the underlying SHL or AON format is the most direct preparation — the format, timing and traps are the same.

How accurate is employer-to-provider attribution?+

Provider relationships change and are rarely published by the employer. forge's guides cross-reference candidate reports and prep-industry sources, year-stamp the attribution, and flag where a role may use a different provider. Always confirm against your invitation email.

Can I practise these employer tests for free on forge?+

Yes. forge has free skill drills and representative tests for the SHL and AON formats these employers use. Each company guide links straight to the matching practice product.
